I Am Lost
During my first few months in the UK, I came across a dead bird on the street in front of my house. The sight was horrific and stirred strange emotions in me. As I got closer, I noticed a ring around its leg with the inscription 'I am lost' and a phone number for anyone who found the bird to contact its owner.
This scene resonated deeply with me. It reminded me of the numbers I had to provide as emergency contacts when filling out forms. I realised that none of the people I wanted to list lived in the UK or could reach me. In that moment, I felt the same loneliness as the bird, disconnected and lost in a new place.
